Positive split training has gotten a bad rap lately. While its counterpart, negative splits, is hearlded as the greatest racing strategy of all time, positive splits have been vilified as a sure way to ruin your race. Are we being fair to positive splits? Are negative splits the running angel and positive splits a running demon? Many coaches seem to think so. I alwasy hear coaches at area races instructing their athletes to hold back in the early miles and pick up the pace for negative splits.
