Marathon Training and Running

Marathon training can be a complex subject. If you have the proper knowledge you can reach any marathon training goal that you have. In this section of our site you will learn the basics of marathon training and marathon running.  You will learn how to train for a marathon.

Do you have the goal of completing your first marathon, setting a new marathon PR or competing for top marathon finishing positions? We have your marathon training program here. In this section you will find marathon running training programs, marathon plans and marathon running advice for athletes of all abilities and goals. You can train for your first marathon or use a marathon schedule for advanced competitive runners to set a new marathon PR or win your age group. We add new marathon content frequently so check back often. The general marathon tips and advice are for athletes of all abilities and experience levels.

The marathon training schedules displayed here are broken down into experience level categories. A recreational runner is a relatively inexperienced runner that run only for fun and fitness. There are three competitive levels - beginning competitor, intermediate competitor and advanced competitor. A beginning competitor is a runner that is just starting to compete in marathons and shorter races. An intermediate competitor has some race experience and trains at a moderate level. An advanced competitor is more experienced as a racer and trains aggressively. Please browse these general marathon training programs and follow the one that is most suited to your marathon goals. Proper marathon training also has unique workout requirements. We have information on marathon hill training workouts, marathon speed training, lactate threshold training for the marathon, tempo marathon runs and marathon strength training workouts.

We also have instant download PDF marathon training plans that will prepare you to finish a marathon at your specific goal pace. These fully detailed plans include specific paces for all workouts plus sections on strength training and race strategy. Click here for more information
