Hill Training

I don't think there is one perfect running workout that will train all of your essential running systems, but hill training comes very close. Hill running is one of the most versatile and valuable running workouts you can do. Hill training and hill running will improve your running strength, running economy, power, speed, stride mechanics, VO2 max, lactate turnpoint and even your mental/psychological condition all in one workout. Including a hill running session one time per week will help guarantee new PR's.

The major obstacle to your hill running success is finding hills that are the right length and elevation for each of your workouts. That can be a major challenge in many parts of the world. If you have problems finding an appropriate hill, consider doing your hill workouts on a treadmill. You will be able to perform any hill workout you can imagine.
