5K Training Plans

The most popular distance running race in the world is the 5K. When you think about it there is really no reason to wonder why. The 5K distance offers everything and endurance athlete could ask for. It is very accessible with 5K races held year round in all parts of the world. Running a 5K requires all of the various components associated with distance running, including endurance, stamina, speed, speed endurance, strength and mental toughness. The more moderate distance of the 5K provides many options to distance runners. Competitive runners have the opportunity to run at close to top speed for a high intensity race or even training run. Recreational and fitness runners enjoy the ease of training and the lower training commitment of shorter distances. 5K races also provide an excellent opportunity for organizations to raise money for good causes or promote their services.

In this section of Running Planet, we have free generic 5K training plans for runners of all abilities and goals. Go here if you are interested in more more specific and in depth 5K training plans.
