The two mile and 3200 meter distance is a common race for high school runners. 3200 and 2 mile racing is not a typical distance for recreational, college level or professional runners. Even though the distance is not common outside the high school level, it is a very valuable training tool for all race distances. A two mile or 3200 meter race is typically run at or very close to vVO2 max pace. Running at that pace does an excellent job of improving your VO2 max, lactate turn point, running economy, speed and power.
