Recreational Training Plans

The semi-custom training plans offered here are intended for recreational distance runner who run and train for fitness, fun and recreation. These recreational distance runner training plans focus on improving your endurance, strength, fitness and stamina. These semi-custom recreational training plans are an effective and affordable alternative to custom training programs or personal coaching. In order to meet your fitness and  running goal you sometimes need more than a generic competitive training program. That's where our semi-custom recreational training plans take over.

Each of these semi-custom recreational distance runner training programs are designed around a specific effort level, experience level and  running goal. Each plan includes:

Detailed Weekly Training Schedule - Each weekly schedule includes a full descripton of each weekly workout and the suggested sequence of workouts.

Exact Training Paces for Your Goal Finishing Time - No more guessing or trying to calculate your training pace. The program overview includes pace charts that shows the exact paces you should be running in both minutes per mile and minutes per kilometer. Some plans also include training by perceived exertion or heart rate.

Strength Training Recommendations - Strength training is a critical part of competitive and race training. Each training plan includes a strength training schedule as well as workout descriptions for general strength training, running specific strength training and plyometrics.

Warm Up Drills and Cool Down Stretching - An often forgotten part of training are the all important warm up and cool down exercises. Each of these competitive training plans include warm up, cool down and stretching recommendations.

Race Strategy - While not all recreational distance runners take part in road, trail or track racing, local races provide a challenge and a great way to increase your fitness and meet new friends. These programs also include a section on race strategy to help you run your best race.
